Mike Kanne, Son of a Working Man

Mike Kanne’s music blends an innovative guitar style with an angelic voice to tell compelling stories of the American working class. Kanne is a classically trained opera tenor who has turned his vocal expertise toward original songwriting. He combines the minstrel tradition of folk music and the soulful penetrating rhythm of the blues to create a contemporary style. Many of his songs are tales from personal experience and many are characters created to reflect the struggle toward recognizing our own spirit. His music, like his life, is a journey from an idyllic childhood on the prairies and farms of Iowa through the belly of several big cities and finally to his home here in the Sonoran Desert. His songs are rich with visual imagery from the natural world and communicate deeply universal emotional truths.
